"Sexual Healing...Is Good For Me" - Raphael Cushnir

“Sexual Healing…Is Good For Me”

As many of you know, my first career was in Hollywood as a screenwriter and director. The peak of that experience was a film called Sexual Healing that I wrote, directed and produced. While the film premiered on Showtime in 1995, it was never released on home video, DVD or streaming services due to a contract glitch.

I’m so excited to let you know that the film is now, finally, available on Prime Video. If you have Prime, it’s free to view. If not, it costs just 99 cents to rent.

Here’s the synopsis: Academy Award winner Helen Hunt is in an unhappy marriage to Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander. She falls in love by accident over a phone sex line with a frustrated bachelor played by Anthony Edwards (“Top Gun,” “E.R.”) Then, the two lovers have to decide whether or not to actually meet in person.

From the outset, the film was organized as a benefit for the Minority AIDS Project. With this current streaming release, all additional funds raised will also benefit that organization.

If you do watch the film, please let me know what you think (Remember: it came out before the Internet so some of the references are amusingly dated).

If you’re inspired to review the film that would be especially great, since reviews are one part of the Amazon algorithm that spreads the word to let more people know the film exists.

Oh, and yes – I did get permission to use the amazing Marvin Gaye song. There’s a great story about that, along with many other behind-the-scenes anecdotes, included in the filmmaker interview after the closing credits.

In Spirit, Connection, and Great Gratitude,

Raphael
